田黄已近绝产，两三年前，售价还按两计，大约一两5万元至10万元，现在好的田黄价格一两已达50万元，特别上等的远不止此数。田黄交易的计量单位也从原来的一两降到了半两、三钱。”林文举说，为了不浪费珍稀的田黄材料，产生专门的田黄雕刻技艺——薄意艺术。濒临绝产的田黄一方面因为量少而价格高涨，另一方面也由于量少而考验着雕刻工艺。
田黄价格的猛涨，是否就意味着田黄未来的行情也将是持续上涨？在当前的背景下，田黄的上涨空间还有多大？在郑强眼里，“田黄将成为金球最昂贵的石头”，他认为，“钻石的世界矿藏量都很大，世界各地年产量在1亿克拉左右，全世界钻石的储量已探明的储量大约有25亿克拉，中国探明的钻石储量亚洲第一，分布于几个省。而全世界出产田黄的产地只有福州市晋安区寿山村，只有十亩三分的面积，且世上再也找不到第二块能生产田黄的地方。这十亩三分地的田黄开采历史有千余年，目前政府已经用水泥封了仅有的二亩田黄产地。田黄有史以来全部的开采量加起来不到500公斤，所有田黄的买卖、交易、馈赠都只能在这500公斤的范围内进行。”“历史上有早就有田黄石‘易金三倍’之说，但从田黄石雕瑞狮纸镇的成交来看，仅200克却拍出了4000多万元，每克田黄的价格达到了20多万元，是当下黄金的400倍。”
