  UL introduction

UL is a shorthand for Underwriter Laboratories Inc. The UL Safety Laboratory is the most authoritative in the United States and the largest private institution in the world for safety testing and identification. It is an independent, non-profit, professional organization that tests for public safety. It uses scientific testing methods to determine the extent to which various materials, devices, products, equipment, buildings, etc. are hazardous or hazardous to life and property; to determine, prepare, and issue appropriate standards and to help reduce and prevent life. The property is subject to loss of information, and at the same time conducts fact-finding business. In short, it is mainly engaged in product safety testing and business safety certification business, and its ultimate goal is to obtain a fairly safe product for the market and contribute to the protection of personal health and property safety. As regards product safety testing as an effective means of eliminating technical barriers to international trade, UL also plays an active role in promoting the development of international trade.

UL was founded in 1894. At the initial stage, UL was funded by the fire insurance department. Until 1916, UL was completely self-reliant. After nearly a hundred years of development, UL has become a world-renowned testing organization with a complete set of strict organizational management system, standard development and product testing procedures. UL is managed by a board of directors with security experts, government officials, consumers, education, utilities, insurance, and standards. The day-to-day work is handled by the president and vice president. Currently, UL has five laboratories in the United States, headquartered in Northbrook, north of Chicago, and has established laboratories in the Middle Kingdom, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

  Battery UL certification

Before the battery enters the US market, it is often subject to UL certification. Although the UL certification is voluntary, the US Customs release the product with the "ul" mark, and without this mark, a complicated inspection procedure is required. And when a safety incident occurs, the Fire Products Safety Committee (CPSC) will also use the UL standard as the basis for determination. Therefore, in the United States, many sellers refuse to sell goods without the "UL" mark in order to avoid trouble. The battery enters the United States as a component of electrical products and requires UL certification.

  Battery UL certified product range

Lithium battery (group), backup battery (group), household and commercial battery (group)

  Battery UL certification test standard

  UL1642 lithium battery (group) standard

UL2054 Household and Commercial Battery (Group)

  Note:

UL 1642 is the standard for lithium battery safety introduced by the American Safety Testing Laboratory (also known as UL, Underwriters laboratories Inc.) in October 1985. It is the most widely certified lithium battery in the world. An authoritative standard for battery safety and reliability in the event of a fault. Mainly for cells

UL2054 is mainly for lithium battery packs or lithium battery packs. Applicable to primary (non-chargeable) and secondary (rechargeable) batteries used as power sources in products. These cells may be composed of a single electrochemical cell or two or more lithium ion cells that convert chemical energy into electrical energy by chemical reaction in parallel or in series.

  Battery UL Certification Application Information

UL2054 certification requires the following information documents to be submitted if the battery cells have been UL1642 certified:

  1. Battery and battery specifications

  2. Specifications and information of key components of the battery (such as MOS, IC, PTC, NTC, PCM, protection devices, etc.)

  3. UL1642 certification document for batteries

  4. Plastic enclosures, tapes, wires and PCBs and other related insulation components must have UL certification.

UL1642 certification requires the following information:

Battery qualification certificate, positive and negative material specifications, electrolyte specifications, diaphragm specifications, aluminum plastic film or aluminum shell specifications, etc.
