Appreciation of the works:
First, "no move, no painting." At this point, Guan Yi and several experts talked about it, including Li Weiming's special articles. But I think, at that occasion, at the Guangdong Art World Symposium, he stressed that "no movement is not painted", which is a manifestation of the characteristics of the south of the Five Ridges school. GuanShanYue immediately said, "not to engage in the exhibition is not active". That is to say, there is little opportunity to get out of life without an exhibition. This supplement, he said, also includes the hardships of daily administrative affairs.
作品欣赏:
第一,“不动便没有画”。这一点,关怡及好几位专家都谈过,包括李伟铭也写过专门的文章。但我想,在当时这个场合,在广东美术界研讨会上,他这样强调“不动便没有画”,这很体现岭南派的特征。关山月紧接着说,“不搞展览便不能动”。也就是说,不搞展览便少有机会出去写生。他说的这个补充,也包括日常行政事务缠身的苦衷。

关山月强调的第二点,是“艺坛百花齐放,我算一朵花”。他只算一朵花,这一点,显然说得比较谦虚,也比较自信。然后,他谈到希望大家看他的画要注意几个点:注意八十年代与七十年代、六十年代、五十年代的区别,他希望大家看到这种区别。这种区别在哪里?他说,不同时期他想法和画法不一样,追求也是不一样的。还有,他希望大家能注意他的笔墨和书法的区别,尚有写生、用色和西洋方法上的区别。
最后,关山月讲了一点很重要的想法,他说想画祖国大地,一年画一张,类似于《绿色长城》这样的大画。他还想画西沙。这是1988年说的话,是我8月9号在工作笔记上记录的关老讲话的要点。重提这几个要点,把当年我和关山月先生直接交往的一些东西说出来,可能对我们的研究也有一些启发。以《碧浪涌南天》为例,我和这一幅画也有特殊的缘份。这个作品完成以后,是我经手在1984年7月的《《美术》杂志刊发出来的,我当时是杂志执行编辑。杂志作了一个整版的版式,期间和关老有若干书信来往,请他写了一个创作谈。这幅画刊发完了,社会影响很大,后来在全国展得了奖,这件作品成了中国美术馆收藏的珍品。但是我并没有想到,这件作品同时还有一个水墨版本。这次看到了水墨版的,我个人认为水墨比彩色的效果更好,我想这件作品若也是中国美术馆藏品就更好了。我举这一例子,是说关山月的研究还有进一步挖掘深化的可能,还有很多事情能做。这次研讨会我觉得有一点非常可喜,发言中除了年长的、师辈的专家,有中年的学者,更有崛起的史论界的新锐,这显示了中国史论界的生机和潜能,这让人非常高兴。
